Braiding FAQs

  • What is cable braiding used for?

Cable braiding adds a flexible protective layer around wires and cable assemblies. It can improve abrasion resistance, organize conductors, reduce wear, and support electromagnetic interference shielding when conductive materials are used.

  • How does braided shielding help reduce electromagnetic interference?

Conductive braiding surrounds the cable with a protective shield that helps limit unwanted electromagnetic interference. The appropriate braid material and coverage depend on the assembly’s electrical requirements and operating environment.

  • What is the difference between cable braiding and expandable sleeving?

Cable braiding is applied directly around a wire or cable bundle for integrated protection and containment. Expandable sleeving is a flexible braided tube that fits over an existing assembly, making it useful for bundling, routing, and added protection.

  • How do you select the right braid material and coverage for a cable assembly?

Selection depends on factors such as abrasion exposure, flexibility, temperature, EMI requirements, bundle size, and installation conditions. Kato Cable evaluates the complete application to recommend a practical, manufacturable solution.

  • Can Kato Cable incorporate braiding into a custom wire harness or cable assembly?

Yes. Kato Cable can integrate braiding or expandable sleeving into a custom assembly based on the customer’s drawings, performance requirements, and production needs. Our team supports the project from design review through scalable manufacturing.
